Why Women Need Longitudinal Evidence

One snapshot cannot describe a life that changes across weeks, seasons and stages.

Burnout And Capacity

Cognitive load in midlife, the invisible work that empties capacity

Long before exhaustion becomes visible, capacity is often being spent on work nobody can see, the planning, remembering and switching that fills a day without ever appearing on a to-do list. The research on where that load comes from is more specific than the word "busy" suggests.

Sleep

Morning light and the midlife body clock

The internal clock that governs sleep, temperature and alertness appears to weaken with the menopause transition, according to a small but growing body of research. Morning light is one of the better studied ways of speaking to that clock directly.

Recovery

Non-sleep deep rest, what the studies say and what they do not

A guided, eyes-closed rest practice has become one of the most widely repeated techniques in popular health conversation. The research behind it is real, recent and worth reading closely, and it says considerably less than the enthusiasm around it suggests.

Female Capacity

Perimenopause and sleep, what changes and what the research shows

Broken sleep is one of the most commonly reported features of the menopause transition, and one of the better studied. The evidence points to several overlapping mechanisms rather than a single cause, and to more options than most conversations acknowledge.

Recovery

Recovery is not rest, what rebuilds capacity according to the evidence

Lying down and doing nothing is not automatically the same thing as recovering. Occupational health research describes recovery as a specific set of psychological experiences, and shows that the people who need them most are often the least able to access them.

Female Data Gap

The gender data gap in health research

For most of modern medicine's history, the default research subject has been male, by design and by habit. The consequences reach from drug dosing to symptom recognition to which questions get asked about a woman's ordinary week at all.

Workforce

What organisations get wrong about women's burnout

Most workplace health programmes are built around a generic employee whose demands sit neatly inside working hours. The evidence on women's midlife capacity describes a very different, more layered reality, and the mismatch between the two carries a measurable cost.

Burnout And Capacity

Why women burn out differently, and why the evidence is thin

Burnout is not one condition experienced identically by everyone who has it. The research base that describes it was largely built without women's daily lives in view, and that gap shapes what gets measured, funded and believed.

Burnout And Capacity

Burnout to Capacity

Modern life often asks the mind to solve problems while the body is still carrying the signal of threat. Across the Burnout to Capacity pilot, the change participants describe almost always begins in the body, and only afterwards in the thinking.

Sleep

Sleep: the first pillar of capacity

Sleep is often spoken about as if it were simply a matter of discipline. For many women the difficulty is rarely a lack of effort, and sleep more often improves as the result of a regulated day than as a target pursued at night.

Burnout And Capacity

Belonging: where clarity emerges

Human beings regulate not only through the body, but through one another. One of the more surprising observations from the Burnout to Capacity pilot was how much changed in rooms where nothing was required of anyone.

Recovery

Strength and slow movement: rebuilding capacity

When energy is low, the instinct is often to push harder. For many women experiencing burnout, that approach deepens fatigue, while slow strengthening movement appears to do the opposite.
